United Way Champions Challenge
Marine Chevrolet has been honored to partner with the United Way of Onslow County for many years. The past five years, Marine Chevrolet has supported United Way by having a car-giveaway incentive for campaign donors. The giveaway event for the 2019-2020 United Way Campaign was hosted at Marine Chevrolet last Wednesday.
While Covid-19 resulted in a postponed and scaled-down version of the annual Campaign Celebration event, the good-will and community spirit was as present as ever that morning! The twenty-one finalists came into the dealership eager to be a part of the exciting culmination of United Way’s campaign.
The event was a way to celebrate local donors who gave to the United Way’s 2019-2020 campaign. The morning began with addresses by members of the United Way team, followed by a drawing from the Community Care Cards for an Apple Watch, won by Sherri Mayes. Then came the big event—the reverse raffle for the 2019 Chevy Sonic!
Our reverse raffle came down to two people, Dr. Barry Collins, Superintendent of Onslow County Schools, and Major Tommie Thomas Jr., Onslow County Sherriff’s Office. When his name was pulled last from the raffle drum, Major Tommie Thomas Jr. won the new Chevy Sonic! This was a win for the entire Onslow Sheriff’s Department, who’s members regularly contribute to the United Way’s campaign and were ready to have one of their own in the raffle drawing!
Throughout the event, one theme was clear: the effects of the pandemic on our community make the work of the United Way more important than ever. Marine Chevrolet is proud to sponsor an organization that does such invaluable work for our community. To learn more about the important work of United Way in Onslow County, visit their website.
