How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Car at Home?

There are two levels of home charging, and their electric car charging times differ greatly. So much so that it is usually worth it to upgrade from the basic Level 1 charger that comes with most vehicles to a Level 2 charger, which must be installed by a qualified electrician. The good news is that Chevrolet will cover installation of a Level 2 charger at your home when you purchase a Chevy Bolt EV or EUV.

Level 1 Home AC Charging (120V)

  • Less than 2 KW per hour
  • 2% per hour

Level 2 Home AC Charging (240V)

  • Up to 7.4 KW per hour
  • 20% per hour
